Eleanore's Project - Peru

Eleanore’s Project has been involved in Peru since our first expedition in November 2004. March 5-19, 2008 we will return to Peru for the sixth time to work in Lima with Yancana Huasy, as well as children from Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity Home, Hellen Keller Foundation, Casita de Caridad, and Nasca region (scene of last year’s earthquake). We will work in Cusco with our partner, Equip K.I.D.S. A total of 175 wheelchairs and assorted rehabilitation equipment are enroute to Peru.

This expedition marks the beginning of an occupational therapy fieldwork through the Global Studies Program at the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota. Five OT students and a professor will join our team for Level 1 fieldwork hours as they participate in our wheelchair seating clinics and other support activities. We are thrilled with the opportunity to mentor students in this specialty practice area and look forward to the positive energy they will bring to the team.

Purchase of the wheelchairs, shipping, customs clearance, education and wheelchair fitting is the result of collaboration between Eleanore’s Project, Caritas del Peru, Hope Haven International Ministries, Wheels for Humanity, Midwest Peruvian Foundation for Health and Education, Yancana Huasy, Equip K.I.D.S., and many generous individuals. Thanks to all who gave to help make this happen!
