Collecting wheelchairs

We collect used wheelchairs on an ongoing basis, saving them from dusty garages or landfills and passing them on to Hope Haven International Ministries in the Midwest. Once there, the chairs are refurbished in the wheelchair workshop at the South Dakota State Penitentiary or by community volunteers. They are given new life and eventually find their way to new owners in countries where it is very difficult to find or afford wheelchairs.

Once or twice a year Hope Haven sends a truck our way to pick up all the equipment we (and others in Montana or further west) have collected, and transport it back to their refurbishing facilities. And tomorrow, December 13 is the day!

Our garage is full and wheelchairs are overflowing on to our deck. Norco Medical here in Missoula has very kindly been storing yet more wheelchairs until they could be picked up. It will be great to send all this equipment on its way tomorrow morning, and we are grateful to all of those in western Montana who responded to our appeal for donation of more wheelchairs in order to make a full load for the truck. We have more than enough!
