The First Arequipa Day

The day dawned bright and sunny and we began our clinics with some amazing kids and young people. Here are two of them:

Yanina was the center of attention as Rick read her a book to pass the time while she waited for modifications to her chair.

Yanina is 11 years old, and today she received her first wheelchair – what an exciting day! She understands English and Spanish; she enjoyed having a book read to her by Rick while her chair was being worked on. Yanina began crying at one point when she was transferred out of her wheelchair – she liked it so much! She blew kisses and gave a thumbs up sign to show her appreciation and approval to everyone.

We had a wonderful reunion with Andres Quispe from Cusco. Andres first attended an Eleanore’s Project wheelchair clinic in 2007, and he was the first person Sammie worked with during her first expedition with us. Andres is a young man of great character who lives alone despite significant motor impairments – which is a great feat. He will finish high school this year – who knows what else he will accomplish? In his own words he said that he would not be able to do any of this without a good wheelchair.

Continue this wonderful work. Give Sammie a hug from her St. Andrew’s family.
