Hurry up and wait…

Sammie and I are here in Lima, our shipment is here as well, but we will likely not see the contents of our containers until Thursday. As these things go there are delays beyond our control, but there is always “Plan B” as our colleagues at Yancana Huasy said today. The postural care workshop for professionals that was scheduled for Friday, is now happening tomorrow morning (Tuesday, May 13) and a parent/child consultation workshop is happening on Wednesday morning. Our colleagues at Yancana Huasy have been busy already, doing parent workshops on wheelchair seating and night-time postural care; the kids on Wednesday have special challenges and they want us to weigh in on their intervention ideas. Each time we hear of workshops for parents being held without us it is the best news… On Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons we are being taken for home visits to see the context in which people are living. We last did this in 2008 and it will be instructive.

Meanwhile, Sammie and I have settled in to our hostel and resolved the most urgent issues in order to focus on what we are here to do – important questions such as: Where will we get breakfast and dinner? How will we wash our clothes?  Is there a place where we can refrigerate food that we buy? Our hostel is very clean, has hot water and good internet so now that we have figured out the answers to those burning questions we are in good shape. And proud of ourselves for managing with terrible Spanish skills in a hostel where no one speaks English…
