Warehouse Work is Done!!!

The fact that we finished all our organization and loading work at the Caritas del Peru warehouse in one day plus a couple of hours yesterday feels like a miracle, but it is true! This morning we arrived at Caritas by 8:30 and began work at 9 am. Representatives from Hellen Keller, CEMPDIS and Aynimundo as well as Yancana Huasy and Equip KIDS were present. They helped with organizing, labeling boxes, gathering the equipment for their own organizations and everyone had a chance to make selections from extra equipment that was available. In addition there were 8 wonderful young men from the Santa Cruz Holy Cross Novitiate who hailed from Mexico, Brazil and Chile and are spending one year in Peru. Their strong arms and backs and willing spirits made all the difference today as we needed a lot of both in order to shift heavy boxes and wheelchairs multiple times. And were they ever good packers – it was amazing to see how much they managed to fit into limited truck space! In total there were approximately 250 wheelchairs, not to mention special mattresses for protection from and healing of pressure sores, standing frames and walking devices. Many boxes of seating supplies added to the stacks of cartons everywhere. By the end of the day 5 trucks were loaded with all the supplies and equipment for Lima area organizations. Tomorrow the Equip KIDS load will leave for the provinces.

Our group of 15 squeezed into a 12 person van for a meal break in the middle of the day.

Tomorrow Sammie and I are not setting our alarms! It will be a much needed day of rest, as well as last minute organizing for the 15 people who will join us in the wee hours of Sunday morning. We look back on a week of work well done.
