Our Partners in Peru

Yancana Huasy staff pose in their neat green branded vests.

We are proud to work with Yancana Huasy, our partner in Peru, to bring wheelchairs and postural care to children in under-resourced areas.

Going Above & Beyond through Collaboration

Yancana Huasy is located in Canto Grande, a neighborhood in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho near Lima, Peru. The name means “House of Work” in the indigenous Quechua language of the Peruvian Andes. Yancana Huasy began serving people with disabilities and their families in 1975 in this very low resourced area, providing a wrap-around program of therapies, early intervention and special education, and a medical clinic.

Eleanore’s Project began working with Yancana Huasy in 2007, discovering common values with missions of social inclusion and sustainability. We introduced and together have developed a year round wheelchair service that follows World Health Organization best practice guidelines. We provide education, mentoring and provision of a yearly shipping container of rehabilitation equipment. Going beyond the WHO guidelines, the program is based on 24-hour posture care management to help protect the health and growth of wheelchair riders.
